One-Size Pocket Diapers

The One-Size Pocket Diapers are a little different than the fitted diapers, a little different than a cover.  They are almost an all-in-one.  The diaper has a waterproof outer shell and in inner layer, with an opening between the layers into which you insert an absorbent soaker.

Pocket diapers are a very popular style of diaper because they are often trimmer and faster drying.  Pocket diapers are usually made with the inner layer being a stay-dry type fabric.  I use custom-milled microfleece or suedecloth.

The diapers each have a set of snaps on the front, but not so many that it is overwhelming!  It is easy to adjust the diaper to a size small, medium, or completely open for a large.  I offer both Touchtape closures or snap closures.  Touchtape closures make the diaper more easily fit a wide range of baby shapes.  I have fold-over laundry tabs to help prevent "diaper snakes" and a  cross-over tab.

Snaps are resistant to the wear and tear that hook & loop shows over time.  Snaps always have a tight grip, and are more difficult (but not impossible!) for an active baby to get off.

Please see my new tutorial on optional hip snaps for getting an even better fit!

These diapers do require some sort of absorbent insert.  Many people prefer to use infant prefolded diapers.  I have used microfiber inserts as well as 100% cotton inserts in my own diapers.

My pocket diapers have a unique pocket opening that is different from the "competition."  The opening is on the outside front of the diaper.  This means that the inside of the diaper is seamless and easy to rinse out if needed.  I rarely ever reach inside the pocket opening to pull out an insert.  I simply unsnap the opening and "shake" the wet insert out into my bag.  This has worked incredibly well for us at our house--no more digging through messies to unstuff a pocket diaper!

I care for my pocket diapers the same way I care for the rest of my diapers and covers.  For more information about care, please see my Use & Care page.

Diapers that are made with a cotton laminated PUL such as the one above are suitable only for daytime and periods where the diaper will be changed when wet.  This is because even though the fabric is essentially "waterproof" on its underside, it is still a cotton fabric on the outside.  If moisture comes into contact with the outside of the fabric, most likely at the seams, it will start to "wick" or spread further across the outside of the diaper.  This usually only happens when the insert is completely saturated or when the diaper has been wet for a long time.  Diapers that are made from the solid colors or other polyester laminated fabric are suitable for longer periods of time, such as overnight, provided they have enough absorbency inside (some of my prints are 100% polyester, and some are 100% cotton).  This is not a feature that is unique only to my diapers, but it is true of any laminated prints that you buy.  Some moms choose to treat their diapers with a DWR (durable water repellent) to add a protectant to the outside layer, and it has to be retreated after so many washings.  I do not treat my diapers as I have found that they work sufficiently well.
