Malachi Jude

Malachi was born June 2, 2007.  He weighed 9 lbs even and was 19.5" long.  He was still only about 9 lbs in these pictures.

What else would our Malachi wear but Pampered Cheeks?  Well, I admit that he did wear disposables (aka "chemical diapers") in the hospital and until we were certain he had passed all traces of meconium.  Now that we are quite settled at home, we have discovered our own favorite diapers, and Malachi was perfectly content to model a few!

This is one of my favorite covers--very easy to fasten in the middle of the night!  It is made from a polyester knit that has been laminated, and it performs excellently, even overnight!  Just a tiny bit of gathering in the front makes sure that it stays clear of the umbilical stump, and prevents any gapping around the diaper.  I also made a side-snapping cover and a front-snapping cover.

I made quite a few of these diapers just before Malachi was born.  They are Little Cheekies side-snapping, with a front snap to snap down away from the umbilical cord.  The outer fabric is flannel.  Since Malachi started out at 9 lbs, these are a little snug on him and a little hard to snap.  But he still has room for growth.  They are so very cute!

This is a newborn sized pocket diaper.  It has the front envelope style opening.  With the Touchtape closures, it is a little more tricky to get these to close below the umbilical stump, but it can be done!  I know that these will be more favored as soon as he loses the stump.  These diapers fit very well and perform excellently, even with "explosive" poops.

While pregnant, I had a fancy that I would like to try sewing clothing from knits.  A few tries landed me with some very simple cute t-shirts for a boy and dresses for a girl.  Of course, I had to make matching diapers.  You will be seeing the girl ones on my hyena cart soon.  =)  Here Malachi is wearing a t-shirt with a "onesie" style shirt opening at the top, and a wool cover that I knitted using the free curly purly pattern.  With some work, this would definitely be one of my favorite covers (right now the waist stretches too much and I need to use a better yarn).

Being that I had some of this knit laminated, I had to make Malachi a pocket diaper to match.  It is adorable, and works wonderfully!

I loved this gender neutral set, and if I told you how much it cost me to make, you would love it too.  Not to mention it is so cute and fits so well!

Well, you can see that Malachi's patience is starting to wear thin.  Although it doesn't look too handsome in the picture, this is my favorite diaper.  I love it so much that I have 8 of them.  And that's a lot, being that there are so many different ways to make the Little Cheekies, and I made lots of them in anticipation of finding my favorite.  This diaper will look better after it has been through the wash once, in the picture it appears to be gapping around the legs and the wings are laying funny.  It has two layers of sherpa, and an inner layer of bamboo velour.  That bamboo velour is silky soft, catches everything never allowing a leak, and does not hold on to stains.  The diaper is so stretchy, and is easy to fit around my big guy, yet will also fit snugly around smaller babes.  The front snapping closures are easier to close, especially in the wee hours of the night, than the side snapping, yet still allow for the front snap to snap down from the umbilical stump.

The girl sets that I made are equally as cute, but do I dare put one on Malachi for modeling purposes?  I thought about it and then decided...no.  =)
