One-Size All-in-Two

It's finally here!

What is it?

  • The OS AI2 starts with the same pattern as the OS Pocket diaper.  A few modifications make it an exciting new diaper.
  • Just like the OS Pocket, the AI2 has an adjustable rise that makes this diaper fit from around 10 lbs up to 35+ lbs.
  • Instead of a pocket, however, the inside of this diaper has snaps to accommodate snap-in inserts.  No more stuffing--only snap and unsnap!  Or leave snapped.  Rinsing out is easy too.

The main component of the AI2 is the shell.

  • This shell can be reused when unsoiled, and can be used as a diaper cover over other diapers.

Suedecloth Inner

  • The AI2 shell consists of a PUL outer and an inner of either microfleece or suedecloth.
  • It can have either snaps or hook and loop closures.

PUL Waterproof Outers, snap or Touchtape closures

  • The AI2 shell has modified leg gussets that form a wonderful "well" that will hold all three inserts (see below).  This elastic system is soft and gentle on baby's thighs!

  • Of course, hip snaps really work well on this diaper!

The next component of the AI2 is the inserts.

  • You choose to purchase exactly what you need.
  • Each quick-dry insert is made with two absorbent body layers and an attached doubler with two absorbent layers.

  • The attached doubler can be attached on both ends, or on the front only.  Leaving it unattached at the back makes it easy to fold forward adding absorption to the area where it is most needed.

  • The insert can be topped with either microfleece (stay-dry layer) or velour (adds an additional absorbent layer!).
  • The snap-in doubler is made from 3 absorbent layers.  This doubler is the same standard doubler used in all my Growing Cheekies line of fitted diapers, and has the same snap setting.  (The snap setting on the main soakers is not the same.)

Putting it all together!

  • The small insert is used on the small and medium settings.
  • The large insert is used on the medium and large settings.
  • The doubler is used whenever you need more absorbency.
  • Customize your absorbency!  Diaper change time for your 9 month old, great! Snap in one insert.
Diaper change time for your 2 year old for nap, great! Snap in 2 inserts and the doubler.

Summary

The key themes I focused on when developing this diaper are

  • simplicity
  • versatility
  • affordability

I didn't want the options to be overwhelming, and I wanted the system to be simple and fast to use.

I also wanted it to be versatile--a drawback to one-size diapers is they are not always the best fit.  Being able to change the inserts helps make a trim and comfortable fit.  It can be used as a cover over a fitted diaper, prefold, or other inserts.

A one-size diaper, by function, is already inherently affordable.  I worked through my numbers many times, even slightly changing the shape of the insert, everything I could think of to lower the cost.  Each component can be purchased separately.  Purchase only what you need--the cost is tailored to your budget!

FAQ's

What materials can I have for the shell?

The outer is made from waterproof PUL fabric.  I recommend only solid colors if you want to use the diaper for overnights.

The inner is made from either suedecloth or microfleece.  It cannot be cotton or bamboo velour due to wicking concerns.

Can I use my regular Pampered Cheeks inserts for the shell?

You can use them as doublers in the front snaps, but the snaps in the back for the main doublers are set at a different distance.
